At 28 years old, refereeing has been a key part of my personal and professional development over the past 10 years. Refereeing in Canada offers a unique experience. We referee amateur competitions over a wide range of styles and skills. It always astonishes my peers overseas that our national competition involves teams spread out over 6000km of our country. I am very thankful for what rugby has taught me and I referee to serve the game in any way that I can.
2017 will be a very exciting year for me as I will referee on the World Sevens Series for the first time. I have refereed 8 XV-a-side matches and fulfilled other roles at the international level, but sevens is a challenge on a whole other level.
I am a teacher by profession and I absolutely love the impact we as referees can have in rugby. The contribution to the game and its growth we can offer is such a rewarding element of our role. On a personal level, I have become a better person and a better teacher through my experiences in refereeing.
